I had tons of fun on this piece. I went on hiatus from painting...again! (I kick myself.) I'm glad to come back to it with a piece like this. When I was growing up, before I became an "artist," I would flip through magazines and find pictures that inspired me, and I'd draw them...just for fun. I remembered that in this painting, and I just had fun...for the first time in a long time. I was actually looking to paint something to go over my sofa in my new apartment. (I moved, and I love my new, bigger apartment.) This painting was inspired by my love for fashion and beauty...and the color pink. Recently, I got into painting small, 6" x 6" squares, and I think they were great training for this larger piece. I don't think anything thrills me like painting large. I'm starting to think - why not paint what I love and forget about being an artist?

That is one of the most inspirational things I have read/heard in a quite a while. I too have found myself caught up in trying to BE an "artist", or "photographer", and sometimes you just have to take a step back and say, whoa, why did you start doing this in the first place?

Like you I have been on a sabbatical from my art, and I think what I need to do is remind myself why I fell in love with it to begin with. Thanks :)

As for the painting, dang girl. That's a hell of a comeback. It'll be hard to follow that up. I really like it, and I think it will make a great piece for your wall.

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. Amber-great to hear from you and thanks! I love this and what a brave size to tackle. her pensive confidence is clearly conveyed. good for you on your thoughts about being the "artist" If we aren't doing this for our own creative selves, then it just leaves us scratching our heads I think!! congrats, nice piece :)

Very inspirational and very wise words. There comes a time when you have to stop and reexamine just why you're doing something. When the passion and fun is gone, it's not worth doing anymore.

No matter what you do, you are and always will be an artist. You're hands down one of the most talented people I know. Keep your head up and don't let anything distract you from something that can bring such peace, solace, and fulfillment.

You don't have to "be" anyone or anything more than the incredible person that you already are.

Great work from a great person.

    Love ya.
