Jocelin

"Jocelin"
24" x 36"
Oil on canvas

This is the third and possibly the last stage I'm going to paint on this piece. I had fun tonight and it went rather smoothly. I added finishing pops of red here and there...and I like the results. And as usual, I can't get a descent picture with my camera. One of these days I'll have to take all of my work outside for some better pics during the day.

Mural Painting

Wow, I just realized I never posted anything about painting the mural in downtown Jacksonville. Sunday I put in a few hours with the Art League of Jacksonville and other volunteers to help paint a mural. It went well and definitely posed new painting issues I've never faced before. The next painting day I'll have a better idea of how to work on such a large scale. It was a great experience to be involved in the Jacksonville community and to contribute to a cause I care about. I wish I had pictures, but unfortunately forgot to put my memory card in my camera! Wow. Anyway, The Art League is planning another work day soon and I will be sure to post pictures of how the mural is coming along. I also have been caught up in my memoir writing class so no new pictures of my art just yet. Soon!

Sneak Peak

I worked some more tonight on my latest painting. I'm laying the paint on pretty thick and I'll let layer two dry a bit before I continue. Here is a peak at the painting at stage 2.

New Figure/Portrait Painting

I started a new painting tonight. I'm not ready to post pics yet, I will get more done on it tomorrow and hopefully post some then. I am working from a photograph on this painting. I'm taking a break from still life for a little while and working on a figure/portrait piece of a young woman. This painting got off to a strange start. I have never laid one out quite like I did this one. I think it's coming together nicely however. Stay tuned for pictures tomorrow.

Quicker is Better!

I had a lot of fun painting this sliced apple. I didn't plan on doing a painting tonight. I'm really happy I ended up painting. I didn't put much thought into these apples, and I'm sure that's why this turned out to be a great painting. I'm happy :)
I primed the canvas with a neon green acrylic paint first. Once it dried, I laid out the outline of the apples with magenta...and they had a mind all their own after that.

Memoir Writing

So, two days have passed and I haven't painted. I work full time plus I have started two "continuing education" writing classes. My first class was last night. It's a memoir writing class. I am in the process of writing my own memoirs and when I found out about this class I immediately signed up. Class went well. It's going to be interesting sharing my own stories and hearing unique stories from my classmates. I just so happen to be the youngest member of the class by about 50 years...so it's going to be interesting to hear stories from everyone who has so much more life experience than I do.

So, that is my reason for not painting, however, I am looking forward to my next painting. I have thought about doing one more still life and then doing a portrait or figurative piece. It's Tuesday...still have a big chunk of this week left to go, with work and writing, so I've got to fit in some art time!

Wet on Wet Still Life Painting

Today turned out to be a great painting day. I was at the grocery store and got really excited by all the fun colors in the produce section. I decided to go with the big red tomato and bright yellow pepper. I love these! I bought the polka dot fabric place mat at the dollar store the other day. I had fun painting these though I had a couple moments of doubt that they'd turn out the way I wanted. I am happy with how they turned out. This painting was a great practice piece in wet on wet painting. I wanted to finish them in one session and I did. I started out by priming the canvas with a neon green acrylic paint. I thought it would be a fun color to peek through where I let it. Oh, and I took an extra picture to give a better idea of how the painting turned out. I don't know what's up with my camera...or maybe it's operator error. Can't wait to see what I paint next! :)
